Week Twelve12/13/2020 This week was the final week before our actual final Genius Hour presentations. So, this week we have both been working very hard on practicing and deciding what songs we will be preforming for the class. We have also been finishing up our actual presentation as well. Thank you so much for sticking with us during this process, and I hope you enjoyed the journey!

Week Eleven12/6/2020 This week we decided to take some time to prepare for our Final Presentation as well as Savannah trying to resting her guitar. After many YouTube videos, and calls and texts to friends Savannah has somewhat figured things out. The guitar is a Floyd which makes tuning kinda difficult according to the people I have spoken to. Mr. Barker suggested some string to me that I will attempt to include in a picture below. ATM, the guitar is struggling with holding tune. Which is more than likely an error on Savannah's part, but its all part of learning.
Bonus Week11/24/2020 This week Savannah has been working on her computer and she now believes that uploading to YouTube should be possible now. We will spend this week editing up some clips to provide and will hopefully be able to upload to the YouTube as well as visible on the channel now as well. Other than that, we will be getting the rest of the touches on our presentation for December. Have a great Thanksgiving!
Week Ten11/19/2020 This week we have been taking time looking at what our final product will be like with the issues with Savannah's computer and all. Savannah has been doing her best to see exactly what the issue is as well as the best way to fix whatever may be happening. On a better note, Savannah got a wall hanger for her guitar which makes things a lot more convenient for spacial reasons. We will be doing our best to keep things updated, as well as progress with videos. This week Savannah has been working on ¨Ghosts¨ by Current Joys and Evan has been working on ¨Nicotine¨ by Panic! at the Disco!
Week Nine11/16/2020 This week we have been once again experiencing troubles with Savannah's computer. The recent few power outages have also not helped with the ability to work on genius hour as well. We have also been messing around with using our capos more since we have not really used them all that much from the time they were purchased. They are a very helpful tool when trying to learn bar chords as someone who cannot exactly do them yet. This makes some of the songs we would have found very complicated a little easier now. This week Savannah has been working on ¨Uma Thurman¨ by Fallout Boy again and Evan has been working on ¨Are you Bored yet?" by Wallows. Week Eight11/16/2020 This week we have found more issues with uploading our videos once again. Who would have thought YouTube is so complicated! We have had some issues once again with Savannah's computer acting up, which seems to be a common issue. Hopefully another easy simple fix. We have also been somewhat struggling to find new songs we like to learn that can fit our skill set at the moment. One of the hardest things about trying to learn something is finding something you want to learn, going to look up the tabs for it and knowing its out of your skill range at the moment. We will persist though! Guitar is definitely a challenge, but worth it. This week Savannah is working on ¨The night we met¨ by Lord Huron and Evan is working on ¨Are you Bored yet?¨ by Wallows.
Week Seven11/16/2020 This week has mainly been a practice week for songs as well as trying to stay caught up with school. Savannah has been looking at AMPs whenever she can get the chance. The used ones at Guitar Center always are a good place to check when you get a moment. Savannah has still unfortunately not found her lost pic, but is working diligently in an attempt to find it. We have found that with school getting busy, it becomes hard to find times to practice. This week Savannah has been working on "Uma Thurman" by Fall Out Boy and "Are you Bored yet?" by Wallows. Week Six10/26/2020 This week we spend as much time as we could practicing and finding new songs that we would enjoy trying to learn. We have also been trying to find different ways to record so that it is easier for editing and scheduling. This will make it so we can easier record on our own times. Savannah has also been working on fixing some of the other videos. Evan also discovered a slight issue with Savannah's guitar. It seems to be just a slight issue with the D string. This should be a simple issue to solve. This week Savannah has been working on ¨Uma Thurman" by Fall out Boy and Evan has been working on ¨Enter Sandman¨ by Metallica.
Week Five10/13/2020 This week Savannah finally uploaded her first video to the page and YouTube. It has been a long process to get this where we wanted it to be and hopefully it turns out good. We have been learning parts of songs that hopefully we can learn to eventually branch off of in the future. Savannah has also been using a borrowed Amp since she got her guitar. She has been saving up to get a new one for a couple weeks and hopefully she will be able to get a used one once she does some research. The pick is still lost, but we are still hopeful that it is out there, somewhere. Week Four10/13/2020 This week Savannah had to contact Apple to get her computer fixed. Luckily, it was an issue that could be fixed by a factory reset. We should now be able to easily record, edit (if needed), and upload videos so that they are accessible to anyone on our page. Savannah is in the process of editing the videos we have recorded so far. They should be up soon and hopefully it is not obvious that this is her first time doing this. Savannah has still unfortunately not found her lost pick, but a friend gave her a couple new ones. Evan has also been doing his best to teach Savannah some Green Day songs whenever we get the chance. This week Evan is continuing learning "Brain Stew" by Green Day and Savannah is learning "Smells like Teen Spirit" by Nirvana.
AuthorsEvan and Savannah are two Sophomores who were assigned by Mr. Barker to spend the next 12 weeks attaining a goal. They chose to learn electric guitar. |
